HOME SERVICEMEN

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION At the fortnightly meeting of the Home Servicemen's Association (Dunedin branch) Mr S. Butler presided. Advice was received from headquarters that the Minister of (Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. Skinner, has now decided to give the association direct representation on all local rehabilitation committees, and Mr R. M. Wilkie had been nominated to the Dunedin committee.

The Secretary reported that applications .had decreased during the past month, but would probably show a decided increase at the beginning of the next financial year, commencing on April 1. The Dunedin membership to date was 720, and the Dominion membership was in the vicinity of 12,000. The Chairman advised that at the invitation of Mr Digby Smith, secretary of war pensions, several members of the committee had met at his office and discussed matters of pensions as affecting home servicemen.—Mr Brough, deputy chairman of the Social Committee, reported that the committee had arrangements in hand for several functions. The hospital visiting was carried out regularly, but difficulty was experienced in obtaining the names of members in hospitals. It was also reported that on Monday night about 50 members attended a meeting to elect a sub-committee for the Miniature Rifle Club. The subscription was fixed at 5s 6d for 'both men and women, to be increased bv a small levy should it be required. The committee expressed thanks to one member, who made a substantial contribution to help the club in its initial stages, and to another, who had_ promised to give a shield for competition. Tt was expected to have all arrangements completed during next month for the first shoot.
