A sentence of 18 years' imprisonment was passed by Mr Justice Martin on Ronald Eastwood, aged 20, a waterside worker who was convicted of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of two men by shooting them in a taxi ori. November 23. The victims were Ronald Pugh, 22, a labourer, who was n companion of Eastwood's, and Harry Nicholls, 43, a taxi driver. Eastwood was charged with murder, but the jury returned a manslaughter verdict. Passing sentence, the judge severely criticised counsel's plea that Eastwood, a product of a, firearms age, could not be blamed for carrying a loaded revolver.
