WEARERS OF SPECTACLES

BIG INCREASE IN BRITAIN Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright LONDON, Jan. 26. Medical authorities conservatively estimate that at least 5,000,000 more . . persons in Britain are wearing, spectacles than before the war, says the ' Daily Mail.' The reason is not thatthe war has produced defects in eyesight, but has repealed them. The black-out was the first pause, according to the secretary of the British Optical Association, for people began to discover that their eyes were not as good as they thought. A more important contributory cause was.'the call-up for factories, many people finding that their eyesight was not equal to precision work, often in artificial light. Army tests, moreover, showed that nearly 25 per cent, of the recruits needed glasses.
