MANY TARGETS FOR BOMBERS
FIGHTERS PATROL BATTLE AREAS (Itec. 11.15 a.m.) lUJGBY. January 24. An official communique states: " Yesterday the. airfield at ltieti and rail and road communications at Porto Civi-tanova,-Siena, and Ceprano were attacked -by forces of heavy bombers. Medium bombers attacked Avezzano. Fighters and fighter-bombers attacked lines of communications in the Fondi. Ceccano. and Sezze areas. Fighters in great strength maintained constant patrol over the batt'.e fronts. Eleven enemy aircraft were destroyed Three of ours are missing. An additional nine enemy aircraft were shot down between Corsica and the Italian mainland. Most probably they were preparing to attack landing ships."
Fondi and Sezze are on the coast route between the two Fifth. Army fronts, and Ceccano and Ceprano are on the inland route. Avezzano is a rail junction east of Rome between the Fifth and Eighth Army fronts, and Rieti is north-east of Rome. Porto Civitanova is south of Ancona, and Siena is south of Florence.
