LAWNS
Continue to renovate and sow down new lawns. The climatic conditions are ideal for this work at present, as the soil is warm and germination is quick. Top-dressings should be applied where it is required, and it must be remembered that through the constant mowings throughout the summer months great quantities of food have been taken out of the surface, and unless more is put back again lawns are bound to suffer next season. Compost which has been put through a.sieve is the "best material for this purpose. If a compost heap is made at this stage the material would be ready for top-dressing early next spring. From now on all weeds should be destroyed, either by lifting them out with a weeding iron or killed by using the new weed killer, Pentoxide. If moss is present in the lawn now is the time to destroy it. First of all n rake with sharp teeth should be pulled over the affected parts, then apply Pentoxide, using the rose on the can. F.S.P.
