The literary section of the St. Andrew Society held the first meeting of the year on Tuesday night, in the Radiant Hall. Mr J. Brown presiding. The Rev. •). Pringle gave a lecture on the ' Battle of Flndilen." on which the mournful .song ' The Flowers of the Forest ' was composed by Mrs Cockburn, of Ormiston. The chairman also rend' Professor Aytoun's graphic poem, ' Edinburgh Alter Flodden.'
