AMATEUR ATHLETICS
OTAGO CENTRE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, the president (Mr C. W. Clark) being in the chair. The Civil Service and Caversham Clubs were granted permission to send teams to Timaru to compete in the Tomuka-Timaru road race on Saturday. The Chairman expressed pleasure at the success which had attended the Otago senior and junior cross-country championships, the fields in which were very satisfactory under the circumstances. Mr Clark congratulated the Civil Service Club on the great day it had. H. Nelson, of this club, won the senior race at his first appearance, and his brother, G. Nelson, the junior. Civil Service won both the senior and junior races and Caversham the sealed handicaps. September 5 was confirmed as the date for the Port Chalraers-Dunedin road race. Mr T. P. Williamson was appointed as starter. Mr C, K. Heaton reported that a memorial stone had now been erected on the grave of Mr C. W. Frye as a tribute from the athletes of New Zealand.
