HOLIDAY FIXTURES

WAIKOUAITI The weather in North Otago has not been as bad as in Dunedin during the past few days, and the course at Waikouaiti is reported to be in good condition for to-mor-row’s annual fixture. Owing to the acceptances having been taken before last week’s racing at Wingatui scratcbings are likely to be fairly numerous, but even so the fields should provide interesting racing. The betting will be on the 75 per cent, and 25 per cent, system. The draw for positions at the barrier will affect the chances in (he Trial Plate, and if Alert, Gentility, and Help Mate draw good positions they should carry the good wagering. ‘ " ' ■;: Carnarvon has been penalised 48yds ’for his win at Gore, but that should not stop him in the company lie will meet in the Domain Harness Handicap, and Bay Acron and Central Lass have placed performances rhis season to recommend them. Nine of the field will bo making their debut in a race. Haughty Winner and Strip are two certain non-starters in the Cup, for which Hearth and Eulogist are the ruling favourites. Eulogist will have a big pull in the weights, and on the good form ho showed at the New Zealand Cup meeting is entitled to be favourite. Don’t Forget failed badly at Wingatui, and so did Hearth, hut the latter cannot handle heavy going. The Raker will meet Parchment on 101 b worse terms than in the Otago Handicap, and Military Maid on 71b worse terms. The last-named raced a long way below her true form at Wingatui. Palfrey will be an interesting light-weight. Eulogist, Hearth, and Military Maid are likely to be the best fancied. There are some smart sprinters engaged in Ihe Bray Memorial, and the draw for positions will again affect the chances. Bali, Compeer, and Dash o’ Dublin are the probable favourites. The best field of Ihe day may go to the post for the Cornago High-weight, and includes three winners at Wingatui in Cymric, Georgia, and Royoney. Georgia is reported to be an unlikely starter. Taxpayer, Norse, and Benevolent should run wed. Bed Rock and Cinchona arc the only newcomers in ihe mile and a-half harness race. The former has not won a race in two seasons, but last February Cinchona won in 3min 27scc, and would only have to return to that form to be the hardest to boat. She looks the most likely to trouble Carnarvon, who. has been penalised 60yds. Hearth will be an unlikely starter iu the Orbell Handicap, and on his two seconds at Wingatui Circular Note will probably be elected favourite, and Egyptian Rose and Leighnor appear to hold the best chances of the others. All but Hurry Girl, Silver Sand, and Lone Bird of the field in the Hawkosbury Handicap are engaged in races earlier in the programme, and this field is likely to be much reduced. Hurry Girl is a very smart beginner, and if reserved for this race Maggiore should bo her most troublesome opponent, with Lone Bird the most dangerous of the others.
