OBITUARY
MR HENRY GORE r An old resident of South Dunedin in Mr Henry Gore died yesterday. Born in Leamington, England, in 1853, Air Gore arrived at Port Chalmers in 1874 by the steamer Mongol. After following various occupations around the province, he returned to Dunedin, where he became engaged in the business of a wood and coal merchant. Eventually he took over livery stables in Cumberland street, and his drags became well known as a means of transport about the city. Air Gore was the oldest Good Templar in the city, and was a foundation member of the Temperance Alli-
ante and the Reehabites’ Lodge, besides being a member of the Theosopldeal Society, lie was an active member of the Socialist Party, wind) was the forerunner of the Labour movement. and was also associated with workers’ educational movements. AIT Gore is survived by two sons —Air H. Gore, of Sydney, and Air James Gore, of South Dunedin —and three daugh-ters—-Airs J. E. MncManus, of Kaikorai. Airs H. Jones, of South Dunedin, and Airs S. Augell, of Alornington. His wife pre-deceased him 20 years ago.
