CLOSER COLLABORATION

BRITAIN AND RUSSIA MR EVEN'S SUCCESSFUL MISSION (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Doc. 29. .Mr Anthony Eden has arrived back in Loudon. Mr Eden’s conversations in Moscow afforded opportunities for discussion on all questions relating to the conduct of the war, and in view of the immense contribution which has been and is being made by the Soviet army, navy, and air force the full importance of this is fully appreciated in informed circles in London. A full report on Ids visit will no doubt be made at the earliest moment to his Cabinet colleagues by Mr Eden, who will also probably take an parly opportunity of making some public pronouncement on the subject of his visit. Accompanying Mr Eden was a party of Soviet trade union officials headed by M. Shveruik. .secretary to the Soviet trade unions, and 'Madame Nikolayeva. secretary of the All Union Central Council. Tho announcement of the Foreign Secretary’s visit to M. Stalin in Aloscow was warmly welcomed hero, not only as further proof of closer collaboration with the Soviet, hut also ns a fresh stop in tho unity of tho Allied war efforts, tho progress of which has already been greatly advanced by the meeting of President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill in Washington. ‘ The Times ’ says: Barely two months ago, in a speech on the anniversary of the Russian revolution, M. Stalin" spoke of a coalition ‘ of the United States and Britain and the Soviet Union ’ as ‘a reality which is growing and will continue to grow fur tho benefit of the common cause of liberation.’ Since then the process of this growth has made enormous strides.

M. Stalin and Mr Eden record that the fullest measure of agreement was readied between them on the conduct of the war, and that the conference has constituted an important ‘ step forward towards closer collaboration.’ This step must bo seen in the larger perspective of the grand alliance in which both Britain and Russia arc associated with the United States, and with the growing number of other countries of every continent. The immediate purpose which Mr Churchill at this moment is pursuing in Washington is to bring together in one common design the strategy and policy of these three great Powers, the pillars and cornerstone of the alliance.” MR EDEN SATISFIED (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 30. Mr Anthony Eden, with tho other members of the mission and 14 Russian trade union delegates, arrived in Loudon. Mr Eden said: “I am most satisfied with my visit, which was undoubtedly very valuable. Our talks were full, frank, and sincere. I was lucky to see the military performance of the Russian armies, which are truly magnificent. ’ ’ The visiting (Russian trade union delegation will begin to-day its strenuous programme of conferences and visits to factories. The visit will last several weeks.
