VEHICLE IMPRESSMENT
LODGING OF APPEALS VALID ONLY IF MADE BY OWNER Clarifying the position regarding the lodgment of appeals against the impressment of vehicles for Army use, it is pointed out by the Transport Department that duly owners of vehicles could appeal, but that other interested parties could submit evidence in writing in support of an appeal. Appeals had been submitted by interested parties on behalf of owners, but unless the actual appeal itself was made by the owners of‘the vehicle concerned, it was not valid. Owners are asked to bear this point in mind, in order to save inconvenience both to the Impressment Office and to themselves. When making an appeal an owner should attach thereto the notice of intention to use or impress, or the impressment warrant. Appeals must be lodged within seven days of the receipt of notification from the authorities.
It is emphasised that persons who have lodged appeals against impressment should retain possession of their vehicles until such time as they receive notice in writing of the result of their appeal.
