DISQUALIFIED DRIVER
GIVEN LICENSE BY DEPARTMENT PERTINENT COMMENT FROM BENCH (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 6. Pointed comment on tho issue by the Commissioner of Transport o£ a license on behalf of the Army to Aden Harry August Pearson, a soldier mechanic and linesman, was made by Mr Stout, S.M., in tho Magistrate’s Court to-day. Pearson, aged 30, appeared on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car on Saturday night. It was stated by tho police that he had been convicted of a similar charge last year, and had been prohibited from holding a license for a period of fire years. “ I think the Army should be told that where a person has been gaoled and has had two or three convictions for being intoxicated while in charge he should have no warrant to drive anything on the roads,” said the Magistrate. “ They can let him drive round the camp if they like.” After medical evidence had been heard the Magistrate dismissed the charge of intoxication and a further charge of driving without a license. The Magistrate told the police that they should get in touch with the Transport Department and ask why the license was issued in view of the court’s previous disqualification.
