TRIBUTE TO SIR PERSY SARGOOD CITY COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION “ He was one of the finest citizens Dunedin ffas had the pleasure of owning,” said the mayor (Air A. H. Allen) when referring to the death of Sir Percy Sargood at last night’s meeting of the City Council. “He was known to all throughput the Dominion for his sterling worth,and for the part he had taken in building up the Dominion, and particularly Dunedin. The Mayor referred to Sir Percy’s splendid work in connection with the patriotic associations, both in this war and in the Great War. He had made available the sum of £5,000 in the last war and he had done the same with the new organisation. There was also his work with the Boy Scouts, and he had done all he possibly could to encourage the movement, and thus develop, useful citizens. Sir Percy had also given fully of his time, money, and ability in supporting the Mayor’s Relief Fund during the depression. The Mayor then moved the (following resolution which was carried : “ That the council records its deep sense of loss by the death of Sir Percy Sargood, and expresses its sincere sympathy with Ladv Sargood and family on their great bereavement. The late Sir Percy Sargood, by his long and active interest in the progress and welfare of the city and its institutions, his personal assistance in furthering many civic and community activities, and his public benefactions, earned the esteem and gratitude of the citizens. These valued services are gratefully acknowledged, and that they should now be brought to a close is sincerely regretted hy the Council.”
