COMMUNITY SING
IN AID OF SPITFIRE FUND The weekly community sing in tbo Strand Theatre on Friday next will be a special olio in aid of the Spitfire fund. The committee feels sure that the public of Otago has been waitiug •to contribute to this fund, and it is hoped that sufficient inonev will be raised to pay for two planes, which cost £IO,OOO. . Arrangements are being made, with the permission of the Minister of Defence, fur the New Zealand Air Force Band, under the couductorship of Mr Gladstone Hill (which will arrive in Dunedin from Invercargill on Friday morning), to inarch from the railway station and escort tlie Air Force Queen (Miss Mary Pratt), winner of the carnival, to the Strand Theatre. Miss Pratt will be received by the members of the Air Force from the Taicn, and with full Air Force honours will be conducted to the stage. Miss Pratt will assist at tho sing. It is hoped that one of the members of the band will contribute a solo. For sale will be a bangle, a halfsovereign, and other articles, all for the Spitfire fund. The leader will be Mr H. P. Desmoulins, with Mr A. Pettitt at the piano. Mrs Mlntyre, who is in charge of the stall, will be pleased to receive gifts of flowers.
