OTAGO CHAPTER EIGHTH AHHUAL MEETING The eighth annual meeting of the Otago Chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries was held in the .Returned Soldiers’ club rooms last night, the chairman (Mr 0. L. Ferens) presiding over a good attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the chapter recorded the thanks of the body to all the members who had contributed to the success of the various functions held during the year. Three luncheon meetings w'ere held during the year. At the annual meeting of the institute in Wellington, Otago was awarded the presidents’ gong for the second year in succession. , The institute’s examinations were now attracting increasing numbers of candidates, and in the October series, of the 80 candidates, 21 were from Dunedin. An examination was now held in April in each year, and for April last Dunedin was again well represented, having eight of the 114 candidates. Messrs M. C. Paterson and A. C, Hill, having passed the final examination, were admitted to membership during the year. At the beginning of the year the chapter membership totalled 62, at which figure it remained. There were three transfers outwards, one transfer inwards, and two membes had been admitted by examination. During the year the committee lost the services of Messrs M A. Carson and G. S. Warwick, who had transferred to other centres. Mr Boardman had resigned from the secretaryship and was succeeded by Mr J. C. Lucas. The report concluded by urging members to give their assistance, as it was only by a united effort that the institute could hope to gain a place in the community commensurate with its importance and ideals. The report was adopted. OFFICE-BEARERS. The following . office-bearers were elected:—Chapter committee—Messrs O. L. Ferens, C. R. Nicholson, M. J. Boardman, J. Jacobs, W. D. Jenkin, W, R. Sinclair, Paterson, Colonel G. Barclay; honorary auditor, Mr C. Penman; representatives to New Zealand Council, Messrs M. .J, Boardman and J. C. Lucas. GENERAL. Sir A. G. Valentine, a retiring representative on the New Zealand Council, briefly reported on the proceedings carried out at the annual meeting,-held in Auckland. Several speakers referred to the services of Mr A. G. Valentine, delegate to the New Zealand Council. Mr C. R. M‘Lean, a retiring committee member, nml Mr G. S.
