MAINLY FAIR The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— A deep depression is • moving away to the east, ‘and barometers are rising generally in the. Dominion, but conditions are disturbed off the New South Wales coast. 1 Forecast: (Rather variable winds, but with westerly predominating, force mainly (light to moderate, but freshening at times. Some isolated local rains probable, but weather mainly fair, with moderate temperatures. Seas moderate, BRIGHT SUNSHINE. The prominent feature of the weather in Dunedin this morning was bright sunshine from an early hour. Though there was a cooling westerly (which* however, was light) conditions generally were quite pleasant, with the at* mosphere quite mild. Peak temperature recording by 1 p.m. at the Gardens over a four-hour period waa 59.4 deg, while the minimum was not much lower—ssdeg. Light clouds made an appearance over the city at intervals, but after the heavy rainfall 1 of •14in over 24 hours to 9 o’clock this morning, the weather was surprisingly good. Barometric pressure was rising in the . city at 2D.7in at mid-day, indicating that there would be little marked change in conditions during the .afternoon. Thermometer registrations ove? a period of 24 hours yesterday were 67.1 deg and 45.1 deg respectively. OTHER CENTRES. Fair conditions existed over the east coast of the South Island this morning at 9 o’clock. Blue skies were the rule, with slightly overcast conditions at Christchurch and Timaru. There was no rain falling, however. Winds were, light to moderate, , except at Bluff* where there was a tendency to strongness. .North-westerlies were experienced from Bluff to Timaru. southwesterlies being recorded farther north* Seas generally were light. Temperatures showed no great range, the peak reading being 63deg at Oamaru. and the least SOdeg at the Nuggets. Barometric pressure recordings reached their maximum at Christchurch with 29 ; 92in, the lowest pressure being 29.80iu at Cape Campbell.
