PARENTS’ AUXILIARY MEETING MR W. G. GLENGARRY NEW PRESIDENT There was a large attendance of parents of pupils- at the annual meeting of the Parents’ Auxiliary of the Dunedin Technical High School last evening. Dr I!. Gardner (president) was in the chair. The annual report stated that the membership of the auxiliary was growing steadily’, and that interest hau been maintained at a high level during the past year. Four general meetings had been hold, and the good attendances had been most encouraging It had been the policy of the committee to seek the co-operation of the principal and members of the staff, so that parents might be brought into contact with the work of various departments of the college. The auxiliary was greatly indebted to Dr T. V. Griffiths, Dr C. E. Hercus, and Mr G. Tovey and their staffs for the excellent lecture-demonstrations arranged by them. At the invitation of the Board of Managers, the committee was pleased to accept representation on the Jubilee Celebrations Committee. Mrs N. E. Puller was appointed Us its representative, and had kept the committee informed as to the preliminary arrangements. The financial position of the auxiliary could be regarded as satisfactory, the nominal subscription of Is having proved) sufficient to meet current expenses.
Speaking to the report and balance sheet, Dr Gardner said that the events of the past year had shown that there was need for a link between parents and the college. That parents appreciated the need for this link was shown by the excellent attendances, at the four general meetings held during the year.
On the motion of Mr W. G. Glengarry, seconded by Mr T, Henderson, the report and balance sheet were adopted. The following ' office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr W. G. Glengarry; vice-president, Mr T. Henderson: secretary and treasurer, Mr L. D. M’lver; committee —Dr Gardner (board’s representative), Mrs N. E. Fuller, Mrs M. E. Morris, and Mr S. de Beer; Miss L. Vial. The anniial subscription was fixed at the same amount as last year.
Reporting on the jubilee of the college, Dr Gardner said that the celebrations would extend over a week in August of next year, and in the following November a fair would ho held to raise funds to form a jubilee library for the college. The auxiliary would be called upon to assist in these functions. The auxiliary had) been represented on the Jubilee Committee by Mrs Fuller, who was pulling her weight on that body. He appealed to members to do everything possible to assist with the jubilee.
After the business of the meeting had been completed, Miss L. Vial ana Mr T. Conly gave brief addresses on ‘ Vocational Guidance as it Affects the Parents of Pupils.’ They spoke on various questions of great interest to those present, and were given a hearty vote of thanks for their talks.
