ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

STRUCK BY TRAIN. Struck by the engine of a passenger train near the Otahuhu railway Station early yesterday morning, Charles Ernest Thoms, aged 63 years, a labourer, residing at was killed almost instantly. The scene of the fatality was a short distance south or the overhead bridge. Thoms, who was employed at the Otahuhu Railway Workshops, was crossing the main down line on his way to his employment. He apparently tailed to observe the approach of the southbound suburban train, which is not scheduled to stop at Otahuhu. He was struck by the front of the engine and thrown clear of the line. The deceased leaves a wife and a grown-up family.
