DIAMOND WEDDING

WELL-KHOWU SCOTTISH COUPLE HR AND MRS JOSEPH ELLIS Two well-known and respected residents of Caversham, Mr and Mrs Joseph Ellis, will this evening celebrate the diamond jubilee of their wedding. For 40 years an active business njan in Dunedin, .Mr Ellis is now 81, being three years older than his wife. Both are still comparatively active, however* and remain in good health. For 58 years Mr and Mrs Ellis have Jived at No. 71 Leckhampton Court, where they moved two years after their marriage. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr Stuart, in 1878,-, at a private King street house. Both ot the old people are of Scottish descent, being born “ across tha border.” Mrs Ellis (nee Janet Ritchie. eighth child of Mr and Mrs Thomas Ritchie) was born at Dumbarton, in 1860. She came out to New Zealand on the maiden voyage of the Invercargill, in 1874, Mr Joseph Ellis, was born in Glasgow in 1857, leaving his native land at the age of 17 by the ship Cartsburn in the same year as his wife-to-be ■ left the Home Country. Mr and Mrs Ellis had 10 children, \ of whom eight are still living. The diamond weddmy celebration this evening wilt'a affair. ■
