OTAGO SOCIETY A meeting of the Otago Model Engineering Society was held on Saturday evening, the chairman (Mr Russel Douglas) presiding. Mr Douglas said that the pond being constructed at the Woodhaugh Gardens was well under way, and promised to he satisfactory. It would be an asset to the Gardens as well as a convenience to the club. Already the interest of model boat enthusiasts in other parts of the Dominion were aroused, and, when completed, the pond would likely be the scene of a representative competition. Tlie public in other parts of the world showed great interest in this form of competition, and no doubt the same enthusiasm would be displayed here. Mr J. W. Chisholm was elected a member. A committee was appointed to arrange a social function as the last gathering for 1938. Several models of various kinds we-e on vievrvMil came in for close "inspection by nie^lf^rs. A practical demonstration of tempering. hardening, and open hearth casehardening was given by Mr K. P. J. Cousins. With improvised materials Mr Cousins gave a very interesting and constructive explanation of the different processes involved.
