WOMEN'S AUSTRALIAN TOURNAMENT HISS FLEMING IN FORM Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright • SYDNEY, August 12. The Australian women’s golf championship meeting at the Australian Golf Club’s course at Kensington was opened to-day with the mixed foursomes championship over 36 holes. The event was won by J. Allerton and Miss Fleming (New Zealand) with rounds of 79 and 80. H. Cutler and Mrs Goodall were second with 87 and 79, and L. Hore and Mrs Hore third with 82 and 79. The performances of the other New Zealanders are as follows: Ist. 2nd. Rd. Rd. C. Ruwald and Miss Helean 81 84 Mr and Mrs FullertonSmith 86 85 B. Hall and Miss Rutherford 85 91 D. Coghlan and Mrs Gramme ... 91 96 A. Shepherd and Miss Buchanan 85 92 D. Hungerford and Miss Hornabrook 90 88 G. Miller and Miss Rutherford 85 91 W. Brown and Mrs Macrae 91 91 B. Gaisford and Miss Illston failed to return a card. The other New Zealanders did not participate. Miss Fleming and her youthful partner knew they required par figures, three and four, at the last two holes to win the event, and they played both holes perfectly. Allerton’s 180 yd approach to the last green was a beautiful stroke. Miss Fleming ran a long putt up within inches of the hole. The New Zealanders, especially the members of the Tasman Cup team, are settling down to the new conditions very well and in practice rounds are returning scores in the low 80’s. Miss Fleming to-day was a model of steadiness. Mrs Crombie is experiencing slight uncertainty from the tees, otherwise all are hitting their shots with confidence and accuracy.
