After persistent rain overnight and this morning the Poverty Bay Turf Club Committee decided to postpone the first day of its winter meeting till to-morrow. GOLF £SOO CHALLENGE MATCH LONDON, July 27. (Received July 28, at 11 a.m.) Cotton and Reginald Whitcombe defeated Locke and Brews 2 and 1 in a 72 holes four-ball £SOO challenge match at Walton Heath. Locke and Brews led 2 up at the end of 36 holes. HAMMOND APPOINTED CAPTAIN TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA LONDON, July 27. (Received July 28, at 11 a.m.) Hammond has been appointed captain of the English cricket team to tour South Africa in the 1938-39 season.
