AN INSTRUCTIVE DEMONSTRATION
VISIT TO J. AND A. P. SCOTT WOBKS Some 300 people last night availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting the works ot Messrs J. and A, P Scott Ltd;, which were thrown open to the public following on a commercial broadcast from the machine shop by Station 4ZB. . , To the majority of the visitors the machine shop was a revelation, as only those who have made a tour of inspection of these works have any conception of the modern and efficient machine tools which are working daily in this workshop. In. this shop alone some 2o men and apprentices were engaged in the carrying out of all types of intricate and precision machining and fitting and it was a feast for the 40 Technical School engineering students who were among the yisitors. The opportunity afforded the local mechanics and car owners alike of seeing modern engine reconditioning carried out in all its various branches was ono which was deeply appreciated by mechanic and layman alike. In addition to all branches of motor reconditioning, the visitors were able to see large spur and bevel gears being machined, as well as all types of general manufacturing and repair work in connection with a variety of industries. After completing a tour of the machine shop those of the public who had availed themselves of tills opportunity of inspecting a modern engineering works, were conducted through the wholesale warehouse. This is a new department of this firm, and it caters for the requirements of the motor trade in all its varied branches. _ _ , Everything from a split pin to an engine block was Jn evidence on the shelves, and it made one marvel to see the hundreds of different parts which a wholesaler has to stock in order to cater comprehensively for this type of business.
From tlie wholesale department the visitors were taken to the electrical department, where they were able to see m operation the most up-to-date automatic electrical testing equipment. Nohing is loft to chance nowadays in testing the various electrical units on a modern car engine, and it was extremely interesting to mechanics and car owners to see actual tests being made on coils, condensers, distributors, generators, self-starters, spark plugs, etc.
Messrs J. and A. P. Scott Ltd. are to be congratulated on giving the public this opportunity of seeing their modern plant in action.
