OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM MITCHELL
Mr William Mitchell, .aged 88 years, passed away at his home, 19 Lome street, South Dunedin,* last Friday. Mr Mitchell was born at Marybill, Glasgow, and as a young man followed the occupation of a stud groom. Emigrating to New> Zealand, he arrived in Dunedin in October, 1881, in the sailing sbip Jessie Reedman, and from that date until he retired six years ago, he engaged in the business of a general carrier. During those years he was continuously delivering goods from tf» wharves to various - warehouses in the city. No man was better known or more highly * respected" on the waterfront. Mr Mitchell had a well-deserved reputation for reliability and thoroughness, and any work_ entrusted to him was certain to be faithfully done. He had a kindly and helpful disposition, and his thoughtful and considerate acts to those in trouble were many and unobtrusive. Another trait in Mr Mitchell’s character was his fondness for animals. He was a good judge of horses, and always had good ones, knowing well how to handle and look after them. ! Mr Mitchell was a member of the Hand and Heart, Manchester ' Unity* Oddfellows’ Lodge, for a period of 70 years. Mr Mitchell leaves a widow, on# daughter (Mrs A. Dungey), and Tout! sons (Thomas, James, Jack, and Law# rence), all of Dunedin.
