QUARRY WORKERS’ DISPUTE
SHORT-TERM AWARD The hearing of the dispute between the Otago Quarry Workers’ Union and the employers or the district was concluded before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) yesterday afternoon. It was decided that a short-term award should be arranged in order to permit the parties to go into the question of a Dominion award, and to ascertain whether it would be more satisfactory to have the particular workers provided for in this industry included m the builders’ and general contractors’ award. The parties agreed to accept the terms of the present award, with some minor alterations. . The rates of pay were fixed at a 2d an hour increase for all workers and the wages now range from 2s 4}d to 2s 6Jd, and for youths from Is 4d to Is Bd. The award will be in fojce from June 3 to November 9.
