DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs A. C. Hanlon (in the chair), L. C. Hazlett, J. A. Mathewson, B. S. Irwin, W. F. Edmond, C. N. Draper, W. J. Coughlan, W. Garrett, L. J. Potter, 1 A. N. Smith, and Dr Batchelor. An application from the Otago Hunt Club to race at Wingatui on August 27, on the same terms and conditions as last year, was granted. A letter was received from the New Zealand Racing Conference forwarding a copy of the regulations under the Remounts Encouragement Act, 1914, and asking the club to appoint representatives to meet the organiser. It was resolved to appoint Messrs L. C. Hazlett and J. A. Mathewson, and to communicate with the Forbury Park Trotting Club, the Otago A. and P. Society, and the Otago Hunt Club asking them each to appoint two members to meet the club’s representatives ? and at that meeting appoint a committee. It was resolved that in future where horses in maiden races become ineligible to start after accepting the fee be returned. “

The question of starting was brought up, and it was resolved to notify the club’s starter that all starts must he from a standing start, in compliance with the Rules of Racing. . It was decided to hold a special meeting of the committee on June 23, and to hold the annual meeting on July 27. ■ A report from a sub-committee with regard to tar-sealing Gladstone road was received, and it was decided to write to the Taieri.Cotmty Council stating that if the Main Highways Board tai'-sealed the road to Sharpe’s Corner the club would contribute £IOO towards the cost of tar-sealing from that corner to the horse gate at the racecourse.
