WATER RESERVES
LEASES NOT TO Bf RENEWED The. Water Committee of the City Council reports that consideration haa been given to the question of leasing section 21, Block 111., North Harbour and Blueskin District,, containing an area of 29 acres, and situated outside the watershed of Sullivan’s. Dam just beyond the Leith saddle. The area is at present, leased for grazing purposes in two sections,. one portion con-, taining 16 acres at an annual rental of £5 and the other containing 13 acre* at £8 per annum. Both leases expire in September next, 1 and the present lessees have no right of renewal. At present second-growth bush is gradually encroaching on the, area, with the result that out of a total 'area of 29 acres' Only 'six clear land are left : for grazing, purposes; IA addition, the boundary fences are in a dilapidated condition, requiring ah expenditure of ■approximately £BO to pufrthem in reasonably good order before the areas can again be released. . In view of these facts and owing to the small amount of rental received, the committee is of the opinion that the area should not be leased again, and has, advised the present lessees accordingly. . _
