MEETING THAT MISCARRIED.

IO TUB EDITOU. Sir, —With reference to the report of the above meeting, held in the Northeast Valley Hall on Tuesday evening. 1 was surprised, if not amazed, at the remarks Jlr R. S. Black “hastened” to have made ipublic—that is, that ho was no party to the convening of that meeting, i can assure your readers that Mr Black was quite a pax-ty to this and had arranged to take the chair quite tw.o weeks previously. He also made it his business to inspect the Passmore property along with Mr Butler, sen., with a view to having firsthand knowledge. However, the day previous to the meeting he telephoned the writer asking that a message be sent to Jlr Butler, sen., saying that ho would not now he able to take the chair as arranged, but had secured a capable chairman in his stead. These are the facts as given to me personally by Jlr Black. Further, I understand that, as the substitute chairman was not available, Jlr Black communicated with Jlr Butler as late as C o’clock on the evening of the meeting and stated that he personally would take the chair. Although I was in no way interested in this meeting, I consider it my duty, in fairness to all, to state the facts as definitely known to me. If Jlr Black was not prepared to state the facts it would have been much wiser if he had refrained from rushing into print as he did. —I am, etc., John Butleb. June 2. [Jlr R. S. Black, states; Mr John Butler is correct in all but my helping to convene the meeting or being an organiser. I visited the property and cannot understand the council’s action in purchasing it for a playground.]

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Would you kindly correct a mis-print-that occurred.in the concluding sentence of my letter that appeared in to-night’s ‘.Star,’ under the above heading? I concluded by stating; “An old adago reads ‘ All is fair in love and war.’ To same, anti-Labour forces have added these two additional words ‘ and politics.’ ” In to-night’s issue, the word “ some ” appeared instead of same.”—l am, etc., B. Walker. , June 2.
