SKELETON OF PRINCESS
WAIRAU MASSACRE RECALLED [Pee United Pkess Association.] BLENHEIM, May 31. Information given by descendants of Princess Te Ronga, the Maori woman, whose death from a British bullet led to the Wairau massacre, makes it practically certain that the skeleton found on the spur of Massacre Hill, overlooking the scene of the first clash between Te Rauparaha’s :i arty and Captain Wakefield’s men, is that of Te Ronga. The Natives now state that Te Ronga was buried near the spot where she was slain. It had been intended to remove tlvfi body later for burial, probably in the North Island, but events after the massacre moved too quickly, and the remains were left where they were buried.
