FORTY-HOUR WEEK.

TO THE EDITOR. , Sir, —Why this injustice? Why one law for one and another for another? My husband, born and bred in New Zealand, has to work not 44 hours a week but 54 hours. He is kept about half an hour late for dinner on Saturday, rushing through work that, before this 40-hour week, was done on Fridays. Result, when he has finished lip he is too played out even to take a pleasure in gardening. I am nob grudging those fortunate in getting the 40-hour week, but if does feel hard to see immigrants enjoying this privilege when those lack it who, with their people before them, have helped to make this beautiful country of ours what it is. Why not treat all alike and close up shop from Friday night, like factories, etc?—l am, etc., Fairplay. March 19.
