CRICKET ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The meeting of the Otago Cricket Association Committee held last night was attended by Messrs A. H. Allen (in the chair), Dunning, Solomon, Martin, Downes, Armitage, Kerr, Rowlands, Stevens, and Dr Reid. COUNTRY WEEK. The North Otago Association wrote stating that owing to players being unable to obtain leave a team would not be sent to take part in the country week matches. \ The Chairman remarked that it was distinctly disappointing that an important association such as North Otago should show so little interest in country week, which could never be completely successful without a team from that centre being present. There was every indication, lie said, that the other five centres to whom invitations had been sent would be taking part. Mr Allen offered to appoach the Oamaru officials when in that town in an endeavour to get them to alter their decision. The matter was left in the chairman’s hands. The Vincent Sub-association wrote expressing its willingness to send a team to take part in country week.—Received. The South Otago Association wrote stating that Show Week would be a date suitable to it _to come to Dunedin for country cricket week, but it would bo pleased to consider suggestions for any alternative dates which might be more suitable to other associations.—Received. TEAMS TO VISIT. The Canterbury Association wrote expressing its willingness to play a match in Christchurch against a team of juniors, but suggesting that the conditions should be those under which the Brabin Shield are played—namely that plavers must be under 21 years of age on October 21, and that players must not have played in either of the two senior matches immediately preceding the Brabin Shield match. The Canterbury Association suggested further that the'match with Otago on March 23 and 24 should be against its Brabin Shield team, which has just played Wellington and Auckland*

It was resolved to agree to the terms | stated, and Messrs Hogg, Titchener, and Hughes were appointed to act with the Selection Committee in selecting the team. The Southland Association wrote accepting Otago’s offer to send a team to Invercargill to play on March 23 and 24, and thanking the association for arranging the match. Resolved to instruct the Selection Committee to select a team for these dates. JUNIOR CLUB’S COMPLAINT. The Port Chalmers Club wrote pointing out that the second grade, A section, match between Port Chalmers and Dunedin which had begun on No. 4 wicket at Tonga Park had been continued the following Saturday on a different wicket, which was contrary to the laws of cricket, and the Port Chalmers Club considered had penalised that club’s team. Mr Armitage, for the Grade Committee, said that the complaint had been investigated, and that the Dunedin Club was not responsible for the preiparation of the wickets, and so was not to blame. The committee had decided, therefore, to register the match as a first innings win for Port Chalmers, as it had resulted. It was resolved to communicate this decision to the Port Club, and also to write caretakers of grounds pointing out that in two-day matches play on the second day must take place on the same wicket as that used on the opening day. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS. The Wellington Association tendered its congratulations to Otago on its victory in the Plunket Shield match with Wellington, and expressed its appreciation of the hospitality extended to the members of the Wellington team.— Received. It was resolved to write and congratulate the Auckland Association on having won the Plunket Shield this season. The Taranaki Association . wrote thanking the association very heartily for allowing its Plunket Shield team to visit New Plymouth, and stating that the visit had given North Taranaki quite an impetus in the game.—Received. It was resolved to write and congratulate the Otago Cricket League on the attainment of its silver jubilee.
