The New Zealand lawn tennis girls, who are taking part in the junior lawn tennis championships, had further successes to-day in the under 21 singles. Misses Beverley, Wilson, and Armstrong all won in straight sets. A surprise result was Miss Armstrong’s defeat of her team mate, Miss Wilson, 6-3, 6-2. The New Zealanders, Misses Armstrong and Wilson, and Misses Beverley and Douthett, also won their doubles in straight sets against local juniors.

The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Council to-night supported the Management Committee in its decision to withdraw the Davis Cup entry this year and not send any players overseas. The discussion was taken in committee. The question of Budge and Mako’s demands for £2O each for playing exhibition matches at Auckland was also considered in committee, and it was left to the Management Committee to write to the United States Lawn Tennis Association. Regarding Sunday play in the New Zealand championship tournament at Auckland, Mr A. G. Henderson, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Association, denied that any assurance had been given that in there would he no Sunday play in similar circumstances. A motion was passed placing the onus on constituent associations to forward to the New Zealand Association’s secretary in Wellington not later than June 30 in any year the names of players considered worthy of ranking by associations, together with a certified list of players’ performances. This was to place the onus on the associations and not on tho individuals.
