SHIPS ON THE HORIZON.—If you live near the sea you will see ships sailing by every day, some near to land, some in the distance. Wouldn’t you like to know how to recognise the various types ? To begin with I am giving you a little chart showing nine of the most common types of steam and motor ships; later I will give you a similar chart for sailing ships. (1) Cargo-passenger liner. (2) Passenger liner. (3) Oil tanker. (4) Coastal steamer. (5) Tramp steamer. (G) Cable-laying ship. (7) Fishing steamer. (8) Motor vessel. (9) Pleasure yacht.
