Broken-hearted, the Italian girl boards a steamer for Milan with a man who has offered her a chance to study singing if she will marry him, En route the steamer catches fire some miles from the yacht. The boy hears the distress calls over the radio and goes to the aid of the steamer. When he rescues the girl the rich woman realises that this is his true love and allows them to marry. Screening time, 85min. George Formby’s first acting was in revue. Contracts for pantomime followed, and variety and recording work poured in. He made two small films and got his big chance when the A.T.P. producer, Basil Dean, saw him in action on the variety stage. Sensing the artistic force of Formby, Dean visited a Manchester theatre in order to catch Formby’s turn, and immediately went

back-stage and signed the comedian on a seven years’ contract. Formby’s first film for A.T.P. was * No Limit,,’ in which he was a freak motor cyclist riding in the famous T.T. races on the Isle of Man. Then followed ‘ Keep Your Seats, Please ’ and ‘ Feather Your Nest,’ and with each production Formby’s popularity increased, and to-day he is ranked as one of Britain’s greatest comedians.
