FATAL COLLISION

ALLEGATIONS OF NEGLIGENCE [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 9. The death of a cyclist on January 1 from injuries suffered when he was knocked off his machine by a car on the new North road on September 22 was the subject of an inquiry by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. The driver of the car, John Reginald Herring, a timber dealer, was charged with negligently driving, thereby causing the death of Josiah Flower, a carter, aged 38 years. After heading the evidence, Mr Hunt returned a formal verdict as to the cause of death and committed Herring, who pleaded not guilty, to the Supremo Court for trial.
