Irvine, T. S Edmonds, J. J. Nyhon, J. Hellyer, J. W. Harbrow and D. J. S. Robertson. CAPE SAUNDERS LIGHTHOUSE ROAD. >An estimate of the cost of repairing the road to the lighthouse at Cape Saunders was submitted by the Marine Department, which fixed the cost at £2OO The condition of the road was attributed by the department to inadequate drainage and an entire lack ot maintenance. The department, stated the communication from the secretary, was prepared to make a grant of £oO to the council towards the cost of the job, and the carrying out of it would be further financially assisted by £3 a week from the Employment Promotion Fund for the full-time employment of registered and eligible unemployed men. The department inquired whether the council was willing to proceed with the work under those conditions. “ That means that the work will cost the council nothing, then? ” asked the Chairman. , Cr Nyhon said that, as the council did not receive any revenue from this road, he thought the responsibility. for the work did not rest with it. The County Clerk said that if the estimate of the department were correct, the council’s share of the work would be approximately £7O. Cr Cross expressed the opinion that the. council should spend the amount the department was prepared to contribute, and then decide what was the financial responsibility of the council. As it was not the policy of the council to assist with work of this nature, it was decided not to contribute towards the formation of an access road to the property at Company Bay belonging to Sir J. W. Mellon. Information was sought by the North-east Harbour Ratepayers’ Association as to the position of the street lighting account in that riding. The association also asked that lights be installed in Roger and Stanley streets. —The county clerk (Mr J.
