OTAGO ATHLETIC TEAM
COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL On Saturday evening a complimentary social was held in honour of the Otago team, which succeeded in winning the athletic shield at the last New Zealand championships, held at Auckland. In the absence of the president of the Otago CJentre (Mr G. L. Tapley), Mr C. W. Clark presided over a large attendance of athletes and friends. The following was the toast list:— “ The King ” ; “ New Zealand Councill ” (Mr C. W. Clark; replied to by Mr W. Bennett); “ The Otago Team ” (Mr W. H. Masters; replied to by Messrs B. E. M'Kernan and W. J. Pullar) ; “ Old-timers ” (Mr J. G. Barnes; replied to by Messrs J. Beatson, J. Morris, and J. List) ; “The Otago Centre” (Mr A. Melville; replied to by Mr T. M. Brydoue); “ Kindred Sports” (Mr W. L. Hooper; replied to by Messrs 0. Gibbons, R. Souter. P. Souter, and J. E. Brunton). Items were rendered by Messrs W. H. Masters, L. Dunbar, D. Inglis, and J. Kennedy. Mr J. E. Brunton proved an efficient accompanist.
