(Received May 3, at 1.30 p.m.) Bromwich, replacing M'Grath, who is in bed with a sore throat, defeated Reyes, 6-2, 6-2, 7-5. In the first set four games went to deuce, and in the second there were long rallies, Bromwich winning two love games. In the third Reyes’s effective backhand took the last game to deuce five times. Quiet defeated Tapia, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Quist won the first four games and Tapia thb fifth and seventh. In the seccmd set Tapia won the first two games, Quist the next three, and_ Tapia the sixth and seventh. In the third set Tapia won the first three games, Quist the fourth, Tapia the fifth after two deuces, Quist the sixth, seventh, and eighth, and Tapia the ninth and tenth. In the fourth set Tapia, serving, won the first game to love, Quist the next three, Tapia the fifth, Quist the sixth to love, Tapia the seventh, and Quist the eighth. Quist was in difficulty at times through Tapia’s high bouncing ball resulting in net/ faults.
