Monday night relative to the formation of one big union were not in accordance with those held by the Otago branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute, which wishes to dissociate itself from the decisions reached as reported in last night’s 4 Star.’ The president of the institue (Mr D. J. Munro) and the vice-president (Mr C. W. S. White) announce that at present most of the members of the branch are strongly opposed to the constitution of one big union. The matter will be discussed at the annual conference of the institute to be held this month, and not until then will the final decision of that body be known. It is stated that the institute was not officially represented at the meeting on Monday, no invitations to be present having been either officially or unofficially received by the branch. Only one member of the branch attended the meeting, and the views given were, therefore, definitely not those of the branch.
