NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT The executive of the Dunedin Central branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement held its meeting last evening, Cr M. Silverstone (president) being in the chair. Correspondence was read and received from Hon. H. T. Armstrong (Minister of Labour), Dr G. D. M'Millau, M.P., Dir P, Neilson, M.P., general secretary N.U.W.M., Wellington, and various other organisations, and these were referred to the general meeting. The organising report was considered satisfactory, 27 members having joined since last meeting, 11 members transferred to fulltime work, and one clearance granted to Christchurch N.U.W.M., leaving the membership at present on the books at 940. The Secretary reported that he had paid a visit at the week-end to Invercargill. A report was also received from the delegates who represented the branch at the unemployed soldiers’ meeting in the Trades Hall. It was agreed to grant the request of Mr Doig to deliver a short address to the members at the general meeting on Tuesday. A few complaints were left in the secretary's hands to deal with regarding men on sustenance, working conditions on jobs, reduced allocations, etc.
