ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
STRUCK BY MOTOR TRUCK. Mrs Davis, aged 68, of Hornby, is in the Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition suffering from severe head injuries after being struck by a motor truck on the Main South road at Hornby last evening. Mrs Davis was walking on the road arm in arm with, another woman when the motor truck* which was driven by Albert Hopkins, of Tinwald. overtook her and struck her from behind. She was thrown clear, but fell heavily. EYE INJURY NOT SERIOUS. The injuries to the eyes suffered by Mr Ward, second officer of the Tamahine, when the Holmes light on a lifebuoy exploded in his face are not. so serious as was at first feared, and he is not expected to remain long in Wellington Hospital. RIDERS INJURED. Yesterday afternoon two married women suffered injuries as the result of being thrown from horses. Mrs Lena Rae, aged 33 years, residing at Cape Saunders, was thrown at Hooper’s Inlet and suffered head injuries. She was admitted to the hospital at 6.30 p.m. The other woman, Mrs Alice M‘Kay, aged 54 years, residing at 38 Ravenswood road, received her fall in Allandale road, and was admitted to the Hospital at 4.15 p.m. with a fractured right arm,
