MOSGIEL HIGH SCHOOL
Air F. Smeaton presided at the monthly meeting of the Alosgiel District School Committee. The Rector reported on the staff changes during the month and on the work"of tho school in general. He mentioned that the secondary boys had commenced physical culture extreises, and those were becoming popular and beneficial. He hoped to commence table tennis and badminton, in which the girls could participate. A small subscription would be paid; he hoped the committee would help.—The matter was viewed sympathetically by the committee. Tho sum of £3 was received with thanks from the Otago State Primary Schools’ Sports Association towards purchase of school sports material. Earlier in tho year arrangements had been made for a sale in aid of school funds. This had to he temporarily postponed. The committee decided that it now be held on June 19.
The Organising Secretary _ of the Otago branch of the League of Nations Union applied for the annual subscription of £1 Ls from tho committee so that, in common with other schools, the pupils might have access to current literature "on the important problems facing tbs Commonwealth of Nations. — Received. A circular from the Education Board regarding opening the school day with devotional exercises and Bible reading was hold over for a month, pending n conference with the staff. The tender of Mr •). Wright was accepted for coal and for the removal of ashes, and that of Air Blair for coke supply. The committee resolved to procure a firewood supply privately, one of the members having arranged for the cutting and material. The board inquired if the committee’s request recently placed before it meant a separate Higb School or a new building for the secondary classes which were attached to the present school. Tlve recommendation for tho householders’ meeting had not. reached the board.— The committee took exception to the reported remarks of file chairman of the hoard when the committee’s letter had boon read to members. A copy of the recommendation which had been forwarded to the board was placed be-
fore members. It had been posted to the board the day after the householders*, meeting. If it did not reach the board, the fault was not with the committee. —After discussion it was decided to send a second copy to the board by registered post, with a footnote showing the date of the' first posting, and pointing out anew the wholly inadequate accommodation referred to by the householders.
