SHORTAGE OF ORANGES

SHIPMENT ARRIVING IN JULY Good news for fruiterers, whose shops are practically bare of oranges at the present time, was received by the secretary (Mr A. H. Newall) of the Solith Island Betail Fruiterers’ Federation in a message which he received to-day from the Prime Minister (Bight Hon. M. J. Savage). The message, in reply to an inquiry made by Mr Newall, states that permission has been given for the importation into the Soutl\lsland of an additional quantity of N 2,000 eases of oranges by the steamer Waitaki, which arrives at Dunedin on July 2, and that this should prevent any shortage arising. Mr Newall said that shopkeepers had no oranges at present, the market being practically bare. Fruiterers were not optimistic' to think that supplies from the North Island could be obtained to relieve the position,’ and would be very pleased when the supply from Australia came to hand.
