NEW STAR FEATURED

LUISE RAINER IN ‘ ESCAPADE ' ' A new star has arisen in Hollywood, a star who is destined to take her place with Garbo, Dietrich, and Anna Sten, and the great Elizabeth Bergner [ in the film world. She is Luise Rainer, the possessor of a magnetic personal--1 ity, beautiful eyes, a captivating 1 Viennese charm, and the slightest sus--1 picion of an accent that cannot fail to please. Miss Rainer’s first American film is ‘ Escapade,’ which will be shown to-morrow at the Empire, and one which brings a new and unique blend of entertainment to the screen. The new film is a brilliant comedy-romance, with William Powell starring with Luise Rainer. Whatever the mood, Miss Rainer gives a charming and sincere portrayal in a role that is not onlv exacting, but one which, to be successful, demands ability far and awav above the average. * And this Miss Rainer possesses. At times her acting is reminiscent ot Bergner’s characterisation in ‘ Escape Me Never,’ and Miss Rainer loses nothing by the comparison. The story concerns the adventures of William Powell, in the role of a famous Viennese portrait painter, and the women who enter his life. The wife of a prominent doctor wins a set of furs at a ball and Powell paints her—in the furs and mask, and nothing else. He is challenged by the husband, but denies emphatically that his model was the doctor’s wife. To pacify him. Powell selects a name at random, and it is here that Luise Rainer enters the story, tor she hoars the name of tho alleged model given by Powell. <
