SCRIPTURE PROPHECY

PICTORIAL PROOF OF ACCURACY ADDRESS BY DR C. J. ROLLS By means -of a lantern lecture entitled ‘ Photographic Proof of Prophetic Accuracy,’ Dr C. J. Rolls, director for Australia and Mew Zealand of the Sudan Interior Mission, took his audience in the Salvation Army Citadel on Saturday night on a most instructive and interesting tour through various portions of the Old Testament prophetic Scriptures shown on the screen. The chairman was Adjutant Mali attic. Dr Rolls showed on the screen predictions'from Isaiah, 19, indicating that Assyria, Egypt, and Israel would again become independent empires, and that the day of realisation would be marked by a highway running between Egypt and Assyria, the territory now known as Iraq. He then demonstrated that the highway built by Ixjrd Allenby to Jerusalem, and by General Maude from the Persian Gulf to Bagdad was now being completed between Bagdad and Jerusalem, so that in the event of the Suez Canal being blocked Britain could transfer- her troops to her far eastern dominions by means of the overland route from Haifa to the Persian Gulf. In the course of the lecture several other fulfilments of Scriptural prophecy concerning Egypt, Palestine, Mesopotamia. and Persia were given. Each piece of Scripture that was read andl emphasised by Dr Rolls was followed by views of the different countries and places mentioned. He demonstrated every time how accurate are the details of the conditions as photographed by himself. Some of these conditions, he explained, were obvious to visitors to the localities, while others had been brought to light by archaeological excavation. None but God, Who, through His prophets told centuries ago what should happen in Holy Scripture, could cause such fulfilment in detail of the words of the prophet. Both the Old and the New Testament*? showed the accuracy and integrity of Divine authorship.' At the close of the lecture the Chairman expressed the thanks of the audience to the speaker for the masterly truth of the prophetic Scriptures. CHRIST AIIO THE SCIENCES Dr Rolls addressed a crowded meeting in the Town Hall Concert Chamber yesterday afternoon, his subject being ‘ Christ, the Crown of the Sciences.’ Dr Rolls told his audience how, when examining the interior of the Church of St. Peter’s at Rome from an unusual vantage point, he was surprised to notice that from where he was standing the curves of the arches lacked symmetry, the colours seemed to clash and the construction as a whole appeared to be out of proportion. Upon glancing downward at the massive masonry and ornamental beauty beneath, the immediate irregularities of the dome seemed only to be exaggerated. Could this actually be the structure he had read and heard so much about? Retracing his steps he descended to the floor 4Uoft below, and on looking up was simply thrilled with wonderment and admiration. Every curve was in perfect harmony, every colour blended in a composite beauty, and the representations of the 12 apostles on the panels of the dome stood out magnificently. Every feature of the great structure was in right proportion. The whole difference was brought about by restoring himself to a right point of perspective. If mankind was to have a clear vision and see the great drama of the Scriptures in its relative proportion it must take a right viewpoint. Referring to the art galleries of Italy, tire speaker said that two outstanding features in the methods adopted by the great masters impressed him. Foi the sake of illustrating these he selected Tenta Retto as representing the one side and Raphael the other. Tenta Retto essayed to paint the largest painting on canvas in the world, and the production might be seen in the great hall of the old palace of the Duces in Venice. He succeeded in what he set out to do, for it was the largest oil painting on canvas in existence, but was exceedingly disappointing to look at, for it seemed impossible to discover a subject of any kind in the conglomerate mass of human characters. Tn sharp contrast to this method were the renowned works of Raphael. This artist was a contemporary of the former, but be never undertook a task without a definite object in view, which he succeeded in so presenting, that the attention was immediately arrested as one looked upon his productions. Raphael not only possessed those rare and wonderful powers of a compositor, but was the greatest synthesist that lived. Ho chose the Devine method that was used in the spiritual realm for the unfolding of truth. In the revellation of the niystery of His will, God had designed to gather together in one all things in Christ, both which were in heaven and which were on earth, even in Him. In view of God having selected His centre, one might expect to find that the whole volume of truth directed one's attention to one matchless form, lonely in exclusive grandeur and lovely in radiant splendour. The speaker then proceeded to sum up his subject by referring to 10 of the sciences, and pointed out that the Scriptures had singled out the supreme figures in those sciences to set forth Christ. In the re'alm of geology Christ was the Rock of Ages and precious corner stone. In the sphere of astronomy He was the sun or righteousness and the morning star. In the ease of zoology. He was the lion of the tribe of Judah, leading through finally to the subject of botany in connection with which Christ was the Rose of Sharon and lily of the valley, the plant of renown and the tender plant.
