EX-VOLUNTEERS MEET

A meeting of the executive committee was held in the Returned Soldiers’ rooms on Saturday evening, with a large attendance of members. The following ex-officers were also present: —Colonels E. It. Smith, J. M‘Ara, Major Johnston, Captains W. T.Monkman, A. Dempster, K. Melville, Lieutenants J, D. Cameron, S. Smith, J. Rigby, and C:P.O. Mackie, Major J. S. Douglas presiding. A comprehensive programme was submitted dealing with the details for the social reunion to bo held in the Concert Chamber on Saturday, June 20. The Chairman announced that ho had received advice from the principal speakers at the function —The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), the Hon. James Allen, Colonel E. 11. Smith, and Colonel G. Barclay. Arrangements had been completed for the broadcasts to be made by Colonel Barclay, the first to be from 4YA on Monday, June 8. Lieutenant Cameron was appointed supervisor of the entertainment programme, and submitted a list of artists, comprising the best local talent. Captain Dempster will supervise the hall tables, seating, and ushers, and will provide for units of the respective arms of the service being grouped together for the opening. Lieutenant S. Smith will supervise the doorkeepers and orderlies for the evening. The refreshments, kitchen, and canteen will be under the direction of Sergeant Jas. Rigby and C.P.O. R. Mackie, and each of the supervisors will, appoint his respective assistants. Cards will be issued to each guest on arrival at the door, and will be collected later when name and other particulars are entered. These are intended for record purposes. So as to make ample provision for catering it will be necessary for all intending to be present to make early application for tickets, as the seating capacity is limited to 600. The queston of programmes was left in the hands of the chairman and a small subcommittee to arrange.

A letter was received from Major Stewart, staff officer, Defence Office, inviting the ex-volunteers to attend the parade ceremony to be held at the Oval and Town Hall in honour of the birthday of H's Majesty the King. It was decided to accept the honour and privilege. It was decided to meet for completing details on Saturday, Juno 13.
