ST. KILDA MAYORALTY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l, too, ■ was surprised to read that a representative deputation of ratepayers Waited on Mr Marlow with a request that he be the chosen candidate of the St. Kflda councillors. This deputation was organised on behalf of the council by our esteemed councillor, Mr Hinton, who also enrolled some (only some) of the St. Kilda Bowling Club members to support this deputation. The bowlers of St. Kilda know quite well the councillor who was seeking support for his own nomination (before our late mayor, Mr H. H. Leary, passed away). 1 have no objection to Mr Marlow contesting the mayoralty; but why should he? Mr Marlow -has taken no interest in St. Kilda affairs for, well—donkey’s'ages! He has not at any time come to the assistance of the Mayor’s Relief Committee. His interests have always been in the city; so why should we, the St. Kilda ratepayers, be saddled with an off-cast of the city? I understand that a young, progressive ratepayer is to be nominated, who is very strongly opposed to amalgamation with th'e city. Is Mr Marlow’opposed to our joining hands with the city? His past actions have proved that he is definitely in favour of amalgamation.—l am, etc., M.H. February 26.
