Mrs Diana Watts, who arrived to-day, is the guest of Professor Strong, Upper Studholme.. .Mr and Mrs Norman Pavitt will leave to-morrow morning on their return to Nelson. Mrs Falconer and Miss Billie Mitchell are visiting Invercargill for the Briggs —Rankin wedding. Mrs W. Easton accompanied her husband to Napier, where he is attending a Press conference. Mi ss C. M. Anderson returned on Tuesday by the Marama from a trip to Melbourne. Mr and Mrs Chisholm, of Wellington, are the guests of their daughter, Mrs Wallace King, Rawhiti street. Mrs Merrington has returned home from a holiday spent at Sundrum, Woodbury. Mrs G. Wall passed through Dunedin bv the Mamma on her return to Wanganui, after an extended tour abroad. Miss Nance Pratt returned by the Marama from Melbourne, where she has been the guest of her sister, Mrs Borten, of that city. Mr and Mrs L. P. Whelan arrived on Saturday from Wanganui, and will shortly take up residence in Mr F. T. Anderson’s home in London street. Mrs Fred Derbyshire, of Christchurch.' and her two children will arrive to-morrow to be the guests of Mrs J. M'Donald, St. Clair. Mrs S. E. S. George arrived in Oaraaru from the north on Friday last to join her husband, who is the newlyappointed manager of the Union Steam Ship Company. Miss Cicely Ramsay, Miss Mary Reeves, and Miss Vjolct Livingston left yesterday for Timaru to be present at the wedding of Miss Diana Orbell to Mr Hargreaves. Miss Eileen Me., lie was hostess at a morning tea party at the Otago Women’s Club yesterday, given as a farewell to Mrs J. Hislop, prior to her departure for England. Miss Doreen Rhodes gave a morning tea party at the Savoy on Saturday for -Miss Natalie Grey, who is shortly leaving for England. Others present: Mrs Braham, Misses Joy Barnett, Zoe Hudson, and Trixie Wood. Mias Joyce Haggitt, Dunedin, who since her return from a holiday visit to Australia has been staying with Mr and Airs Bryan Haggitt, Wanganui, and Airs P. S. K. Macassey, Talavera Terrace, Wellington returned to Dunedin to-day.

Mrs Tj. Shenker gave a delightful ludo party at her residence, Onslow street, St. Clair, in honour of Mrs S. Martin, of Timaru. who is on a short holiday visit to Dunedin. ' Dr Vida Lemon (nee Grater), formerly of Dunedin and Gore, was recently appointed to the position of anaesthetist on the honorary medical staff of the Hoyal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Ireland. Mr and Mrs J. M'Kinley and young son, who have been the guests of Mrs AV. M'Kinley, Adam street, left on Monday to tour the North Island. They will he the guests of Mrs J. M'Kinley. Wellesley road, Napier, before returning to their home in Melbourne. Mrs J. A. TL Scott (Oamaru) was recently hostess at a tea party in honour of her sister, Mrs Hunter, of Dunedin. Those present included Mesdames Tomlinson, Nicolls, Macpherson, Fotheriugham, Gedge, and R. Mitchell, and Misses Banks, K. Mitchell, and Reid. Mrs Richard Hudson was hostess at a bridge party at her home in Royal Terrace on Monday, in honour of Mrs J. Hislop and Mrs H. D. W. Brewer prior to their departure for England. On Saturday Mrs D. Phillips gave a morning tpa party in the Savoy as a farewell to Mrs Brewer. Mrs H. C. M'Queen, who is shortly leaving to take up her residence in Auckland, has recently been the guest of honour at several farewell parties. On Saturday morning a party was given for her at the Savoy by Mrs L. F. Broad; on Friday Mrs August Dc Beer gave her a luncheon party at the Tudor Hall, and during the past week Mrs C. M. Fock<n and Mrs AV. Brown were hostesses in her honour. An interested spectator at the New Zealand amateur athletic championships to be held in Dunedin next Friday and Saturday will be Miss Fay Gudsell, Ashburton (present holder of the New Zealand ladies’ 100yds title). Miss Gudsell will arrive on Thursday, and will be the guest of Miss Noeline Mul'onger, lloslyn. The engagement is announced of Sylvia Marie, youngest daughter of Lieutenant-colonel John 0. Miss Molly M'Larcn, of Outram, was hostess at a tea party on Friday afternoon at the Savoy in honour of Miss Connie Stevenson, whose marriage to Mr AV. F. Titchener takes *place in First Church this evening. Guests included Mesdames Stevenson, Shaw, Johnston, Collie, Wellman, Maxwell, M'Master, M'Laren (West Taiori), and the Misses Stevenson (3). M'Laren. Orr, Robertson, Page, Lodge, Titchener (2), and Stewart. ■ Miss Margot Garrett, who is shortly leaving on a trip to England, was the guest of the committee of . the Duneclin branch of the Federation of University AA'omen at a tea party held at the home of the president (Airs F. J. Turner) on Monday afternoon. Miss Garrett, who lias been a very successful secretary, was presented with a book and a bouquet of flowers as a mark of appreciation from the other committee members. Visiting players to the Otago croquet tournament were the guests of the president (Airs A. S. Dalgliesh) and the executive of the Otago Association at tea at the Savoy on Saturday evening, followed by- h picture party at the Regent Theatre. After tea > a pleasant time was spent in the lounge, when Aliss Perrin, on behalf of the Southland players, and Mrs O’Kanc, on behalf of those from Otago Central, returned thanks for the hospitality enjoyed during the tourney. Airs Dalgliesh graciously acknowledged this on behalf of her association. ' Prior to their departure from Oamaru for the southern city, Mr and Airs P. Interest in the stage is still on the increase, and the 1936 season .for the amateur drama may be said to begin with the Repertory Society’s social evening, to be held on Saturday next in the Concct Chamber. This will be the first reunion of Dunedin’s stagefolk since November, and it is certain to be a notable event. And, of course, everyone is awaiting with inte;est the society’s production, ‘ The Admirable Crichton,’ next month. On Wednesday last a very enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Green Island bowling pavilion, when the Green Island Radies’ Bowling Club entertained the Waikouaiti lady bowlers. After the president (Mrs Mason) had welcomed the visitors, luncheon was served Progressive doubles were then commenced, but these unfortunately had to be abandoned owing to weather conditions. The ladies retired to the pavilion where a dainty afternoon tea was served. Before leaving, Mrs Fell, president of the Waikouaiti Club, thanked the Green Island ladies for their hospitality. On Monday afternoon the members, of the motor circle of ' the Otago Women’s Club gave their annual picnic to the children of the Kcw Convalescent Home and the Dunedin Hospital, and took as many ns were able to travel, and also several adult patients (from the Dunedin Hospital), for a picnic to the club’s cottage at Waitati. The afternoon was a delightful one, the cottage making a perfect rendezvous for the occasion, and the circle members were well repaid for thier pains by the appreciation of children and grown-ups alike. On Saturday last Mr J. A. Pears, of Etavale, gave a party at Elmwood Garden, Invercargill, to announce the marriage of his daughter. Mary Cunningham, to Hugh Gribben, second son of the late Air J. D. Lynch and Mrs Lynch, of Greymouth. The marriage took place on January 10 at Invercargill. Among the guests were Air and Airs C. B. Tapley and Miss Norah Bayly (Adelaide), Air and Airs Otway, Mr and Airs Sale, Air and Airs L. D. La Perelle, Dr and Airs O. Yule. The future home of Air and Airs H. G. Lynch will be in Mataura, where Mr Lynch will practice as a dentist. The National Executive of the Y.W.C.A., together with the board of the Wellington Y.W.C.A., arranged an informal and very pleasant reception on Friday last in a lounge at the Y.W.C.A. for Dr Georgina Sweet, a renowned social service worker in Australia, who is passing through New Zealand. Dr Sweet is an honorary lecturer in zoology at Alelbourne University. She founded the Pan-Pacifie Women’s Committee and the Australian joint standing committee of the Women’s Alajor Federal Organisation, with international affiliations, and she was for seven -years the national president of the Young Women’s Christian Association of Australia. In May she will represent the executive of the World Young Women’s Christian Association at a conference at Geneva, and in October she will proceed to Ceylon to attend the World Council and Pacific Area Conference. Next year she will be present at the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association meeting, which is , to be held either in Canada or Japan.
