PERFORMING DOGS

SPECIALTY ACT WITH “ GAIETIES " COMPANY Sydney went solidly “ to the dogs a little while ago, when Reno’s wonderful animals were delighting packed houses in the big city, and it is almost a certainty that Dunedin will follow suit from Saturday next, when this remarkable canine act is to be seen with Stanley M'Kay’s “Gaieties of 1936 ” Revue and Vaudeville Company at His Majesty’s Theatre. Lovers of animals will be astounded when they see these dogs skip, waltz, foxtrot, ascend ladders as young girls and descend as old ladies, play sketches in dumb show, etc. They are only one of the many excellent offerings in Fresh Faces/ the initial revue, which sparkles with good, clean comedy, clever dancing, brilliant singing, and sensational acrobatic work. Ike Delavale, the popular Jewish comedian, has brought to Now Zealand a budget of _ new material, including his side-splitting sketches. ‘ Convicts in Clover ’ and ‘The Post Office.’ He has valuable assistance from Joe Rox, Maggie Bucklev,' and George Corelli, well-known Australian artists. The delightful song scenas, ‘ Remember ’ and ‘ The White Gardenia,’ afford splendid opportunities for the fine voices of Winnie Fdgorton, soprano, and Russell Callow, tenor. Dancing is featured by Patricia and Colin and Jerry and Phyllis, the former duo being adagio experts and the latter portraying the very latest in tap and ballroom novelties. Other outstanding specialities include Elvy Ferguson, solo violinist, Jerry Keogh, tap dancer, and the Alexanders, acrobats. The “ Gaieties ” Sun-kissed Ballet, May Brooke’s orchestra, beautiful dresses, and elaborate staging are big assets in each show. Seats may be reserved at the D.I.C. from Wednesday next.
