POST OFFICE RETURNS
SUBSTANTIAL REVENUE INCREASES IMPROVEMENTS IN ALL BRANCHES [Spscial to tub ' Star.’J WELLINGTON, January 29. Tlio Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) states that the business of the department for the nine months ended December 31 indicates a general improvement in all branches. After paying interest on capital charges amounting to £409,500, the net revenue totalled £2,669,816— an improvement on the corresponding period of the previous year of £165,500. The main increases in revenue were distributed as follow.: —* Postages ...; ... >..: £93,700 Telegraph ... ... 7,000 Tolls .... ... 40,000 . Telephones ...: :... 36,300 The Minister added that telephone toll business during the final quarter of 1935 increased to the extent of 8.98 per cent., representing 424,555 additional messages and an extra revenue of £10,544.
